Two retired horses grazing at sunrise in a green pasture at Re-Write Rescue

Equine retirement · Second chances

Every horse deserves to re-write the next chapter.

Unrideable doesn't mean unwanted. Re-Write Rescue is a retirement sanctuary where horses no longer able to be ridden find purpose, care and rest — and where people find the same.

Our story

Life doesn't always go as planned. There is always a next chapter.

At Re-Write Rescue we believe every horse — just like every person — deserves a second chance. Our sanctuary is dedicated to giving retired, senior and unrideable horses new purpose, proving their wisdom and presence still hold immense value.

We're not just rescuing horses. We're creating a place where both horses and humans can heal, grow, and rewrite their stories.

Three ways to give a retired horse a soft place to land

Horse care volunteering

Feeding, grooming, turnout, mucking and quiet time with senior and unrideable horses. No experience required — we train you.

Land maintenance

Fencing, brush clearing, pasture rotation, hay hauling and barn repairs. Every hour of work is a safer place for a horse to rest.
